Young people grow up without a mentor. Research from MENTOR found that roughly one-third of youth never have a trusted adult mentor outside their immediate family.
43%
Nearly half of at-risk youth report wishing they had a mentor. Among young people facing multiple risk factors, 43% said there was a time they wanted a mentor but didn't have one.
Fewer Pathways
Youth from low-income communities have fewer pathways to employment, including summer jobs, internships, and early work experiences that build career skills and professional networks.
The 653 Mentorship Program guides students through four stages of development, from personal growth and technical training to career readiness and employment. Students receive mentorship, industry certifications, hands-on experience, and direct exposure to careers in digital and print media, culinary arts, real estate, and first responder professions, creating clear pathways to long-term success.
